Des Princes

Edited by Isabelle Cogitore

The question of the prince has interested historians for a long time. With the death of ideologies, the fall of the Berlin Wall and a renewed interest in rhetorics, it is once again a literary problem. It is now a question of finding, of analyzing from within, a representation of politics as it was before the French Revolution. With the Annales school, historians have rediscovered that desires count as much as reality, words and gestures that accompany them as much as facts.

A work programme ensues: to look at all these writings that are praises, entries, addresses of all kinds as texts in their own right. They speak of love, love of the prince for his subjects and love of subjects for their prince. To find angles of attack, adapt critical tools, even find new methods of work and in some cases publish texts that deserve it, this is the purpose of this series.
