1The Alliance française in the Algarve (Faro) is one of the ten Alliance française centers in Portugal and was founded in 1942. It is a place where French culture is promoted and made known and today, with a large number of French people living permanently in Portugal, a place where Portuguese culture and language can be learned by new arrivals.

2The cultural activities proposed are many and as far as French cinema is concerned, they are totally typical of the cultural policy which is conducted in Alliance française and Institut français centres around the world.  

3The Alliance Française in the Algarve was the first of its kind in Portugal to use the IF Cinema platform – a non-commercial Institut Français distribution platform designed for the French cultural network via its relay stations – and organise film projections for the general public.
