Cette bibliographie très complète n'est que pour une faible part le fruit des recherches personnelles de l'auteur. La plus grande partie des références furent recueillies à la Mitchell Library, à Sydney, par Mrs. M. F. Crowley, sous l'autorité de la Section du Développement social de la Commission du Pacifique Sud, à qui ce travail avait été demandé par M. Guiarl.
Les difficultés de communications ont fait qu'il n'a pas été possible de compléter certaines références insuffisamment détaillées.
En ce qui concerne la littérature imprimée en langue indigène, on devra se reporter aux deuxième et troisième parties de la Bibliographie de Mr. Justice J. A. Ferguson.
