Abstract

This paper focuses on the old imperial borders of the nineteenth century, which cuts the Upper Silesia (southern Poland) in three separate territories (Austrian, Prussian and Russian). These old borders were erased at the end of the First World War. Yet, despite their formal repeal, they resurface today on space by marks in the landscape, and in the society that continues to remember and to represent them. We are noticing a phenomenon of reproduction of borders. Indeed, the old borders re-invent itself by changing of meaning, of significance and even of nature. They reappear not in terms of physical barrier but like cultural and identity barrier.
