The Sorbonne Scholars: List of Musicians
p. 193
Texte intégral
1The Sorbonne Scholars are a vocal and instrumental ensemble specialized in the music of the Renaissance. The ensemble is comprised of members of the university community, professional musicians, and other amateurs of music. Pierre Iselin, professor of English at the University of Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV) and specialist in the relationships between music, theatre and society in England in 16th and 17th centuries, is musical director.
The originality of the Sorbonne Scholars resides in the close link between research and performance of the literature. Programs centre on a composer or author, an event of the time, or a theme: “The music of Shakespeare’s plays” is one example. Specialists in the various disciplines involved (history, literature, musicology, linguistics, instrumental and vocal performance, dance) collaborate on the different projects and programs. The composition of the ensemble reflects this orientation of applied research through the large proportion of university students, teachers, and researchers.
The Sorbonne Scholars perform regularly at the Sorbonne, in academic conferences and festivals in Paris and in the provinces, and abroad.
