Unknown effectiveness (limited evidence)
1● Legal protection of species
2Three reviews, including one systematic review, in the Netherlands and UK found that legal protection of amphibians was not effective at protecting populations during development. Two reviews found that the number of great crested newt mitigation licences issued in England and Wales increased over 10 years. Assessment: unknown effectiveness – limited evidence (effectiveness 10%; certainty 35%; harms 7%).
