It aims to challenge dominant narratives, highlight the resilience and agency of Palestinians, and explore new pathways toward justice and liberation amid ongoing occupation and colonialism. The volume is structured into five sections, each providing a distinct lens on the question of Palestine. Topics covered include the question of refugees, the diaspora, the predicament of the Palestinian Authority, hydropolitics, and the settler colonial modes of Israeli control. Additionally, the book delves into Palestinian cultural resistance and the evolution of international coalitions, highlighting a shift in solidarity - from performative to transformative - towards decolonisation and liberation and the associated challenges.
Riccardo Bocco (dir.)
Emeritus Professor of Political Sociology at the Geneva Graduate Institute.
Riccardo BOCCO is Emeritus Professor of Political Sociology at the Geneva Graduate Institute. His main geographical area of fieldwork for the last 45 years has been the Near East with a particular focus on Jordan, Israel/Palestine and Lebanon. He has successively worked on issues of development policies and State-building; on humanitarian aid and refugees; and monitoring the impact of international aid on civilian populations. He has been director of the French Centre for Research on the Contemporary Middle East, based in Amman, then Research Director and Academic Director for the Masters’ Program at the Graduate Institute. During the 2000s, he has led large-scale research projects on international aid in the Near East for several UN agencies. His present research project titled ‘Violence, memory and cinema’ explores the role of documentary and fiction films in (re)constructing collective memories and during armed conflicts (Israel/Palestine) in post-civil wars (Lebanon) and in post-dictatorship contexts (Argentina and Chile). Ibrahim Saïd (dir.)
International Institute, Geneva.
Ibrahim SAÏD is an adjunct faculty member at the International Institute in Geneva. He is also the co-founder of think-ahead, a not-for-profit research organisation that specialises in the analysis of international aid and provides technical assistance to organisations working in humanitarian, development, conflict and post-conflict settings. In recent years, he has worked with several international organisations developing policy strategies based on evidence-based research and multistakeholder consultations. Academically, he has a Ph.D. in Anthropology and Sociology of Development from the Geneva Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, and a Masters from the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at the University of Oxford. His academic research interests span the fields of legal and political anthropology, anthropology of human rights, settler colonial studies, (colonial) governmentality studies, and the sociology of translation with a special focus on the Middle East, particularly Israel-Palestine.
