314The disparity between Father Mouléro’s list of twenty-five Jagun and twenty-six by Palau-Marti and Ediku is caused by the inclusion of Òyòró on Palau-Marti’s list, and of Arígbó on Ediku’s list. Òyòró was not a Jagun but a co-ruler with Şàgbóná (i.e., the first Ǫbalókè). Similarly, Arígbó was not a Jagun but the head of the pre-dynastic Ìjeùn group displaced at Yaka. Thus both Òyòró and Arígbó should be knocked off the lists.
315Although Ǫlófin was not a Jagun, his inclusion on the lists is understandable. As the originator of the alliance between the Lémǫn and the Ègbá at Èpò, he was the initiator of the events that led to the emergence of the kingdom of Ìdáìşà and hence could be regarded as the progenitor of the Jagun title. However, following the discussions in the present study, the Jagun from the foundation of the kingdom c.1750 till the end of the eighteenth century are, Şàgbóná, Ògùdù, Olúsà and Ajíbóyè.
