1This volume was published with the financial support of the Région Île-de-France, the Université Paris-Sorbonne, the Wallace Stevens Society, and the VALE EA4085 research group. In addition to these, the Gallatin School of New York University, New York University in Paris, LILA (École Normale Supérieure), CRÉA EA370 (Université Paris Nanterre), and ÉRIAC EA4705 (Université de Rouen Normandie) all generously contributed to the conference, making it a most memorable, and a pleasurable, event. Research funding received by two of the co-editors during the year 2016-2017, awarded on the one hand by the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) at the LARCA research center (Université Paris Diderot, UMR 8225) to Juliette Utard, and by the NIAS (Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences) and the Flemish Research Council (FWO) to Bart Eeckhout, ensured swift progress on the book.
