Editing rules

Rules for books publication in the collection Biblioteca - Estudos & Colóquios:

1) The Collection CIDEHUS -UÉ accepts proposals for publishing up to 3 scientific books per year. It must be restricted to the fields of History, Sociology, Anthropology, Heritage, Librarianship and other areas related to Social Sciences and Humanities, mainly around the core themes of its research program.

2) The books proposed for editing, in paper or electronic forms, must be original works of research, with high scientific rigor. Only in very exceptional cases, books translated to Portuguese and already published in other languages, will be admitted.

3) Books might have individual authors or be collective works, as long as they are not proceedings of congresses. The latter will be published only in digital form.

4) Individual authors or collective works coordinators who wish to publish in the Collection Biblioteca - Estudos & Colóquios  must submit two copies in electronic format, one editable and other not (pdf), the curriculum vitae of the author or the coordinator(s) of the work, as well as a summary and an index, to the Directive Board of CIDEHUS. Unfinished works won’t be, in any case, evaluated.

5) The direction of CIDEHUS, after an initial evaluation of the texts, will send the copies, without authorship information, to two renowned experts in the field (referee). It is their task to emit an anonymous opinion about the convenience of editing the texts and the amendments or revisions they consider advisable. These experts may be Portuguese or foreigners. In the case of collective books, the texts can be divided amongst various experts, always ensuring that each chapter is seen by more than one commentator. In case of an introduction written by the organizers, it should also be targeted by the arbitration system.

6) The referees’ choice is a responsibility of the Directive Board and the coordinator of the research line that the book concerns, taking into account the responsible for editing and eventually other specialists in the theme. In the case of collective books, it may be asked its coordinator(s) to indicate names (and their contact information) to the reading committee. Whenever the work is authored, in whole or in part, by one of the elements of the Directive Board, that person cannot have any intervention on the choice of the reading committee. It will be, however, heard as any other member of CIDEHUS that proposes the publication of a book.

7) Once finished the review process, it’s the CIDEHUS task to file the opinions.

8) The authors or editors of books, in collaboration with the secretariat of CIDEHUS, will seek additional financial support for the publication of the book.

9) Even though the books approved, the maximum number of books published per year depends, ultimately, of CIDEHUS financial resources.

10) The existence of the support for the Collection Biblioteca - Estudos & Colóquios does not inhibit CIDEHUS to sponsor the publication of texts in other collections or publishers, always giving preference to those who have been subjected to peer review systems in the double-blind refereeing patterns.
