Based in Addis Ababa, the French Centre for Ethiopian Studies (CFEE) produces and publishes original research on past and present societies and environment of Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa (South Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, and Somalia). Its research programmes cover an extensive range of scientific fields, from paleontology to political science, including archaeology, the humanities and social sciences. The CFEE is a member of the French Research Institutes Abroad network (IFRE), under the aegis of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). In 1997, the CFEE succeeded to the Maison des études éthiopiennes established in 1991. It thus represents the continuation of almost one hundred years of French-Ethiopian scientific cooperation.
