Edvard Kocbek [1904, Sveti Jurij ob Ščavnici, Ger. Sankt Georgen an der Stainz (Northeastern Slovenia) − 1981, Ljubljana]: poet, writer, essayist, and political activist. The son of a church organist, he joined the Catholic youth movement in high school. After a short period in the seminary in Maribor, he enrolled at the University of Ljubljana, graduating in Romance philology.
