About the author

Ion Dragoumis (known also by his penname Idas) [1878, Athens–1920, Athens]: politician, diplomat, and writer. He was born to a prominent family; his father Stefanos was the head of the last government before Eleftherios Venizelos took over in 1910. His sister was married to Pavlos Melas, a Greek military officer involved in the inter-ethnic clashes in Ottoman Macedonia at the beginning of the 20th century. After completing secondary education, Dragoumis studied law in Athens. He then took part in the ill-fated 1897 war. In 1899, he started his career as a diplomat. Starting from 1902, he was appointed at several consulates in Ottoman Macedonia and Thrace, where he actively participated in the struggle against Bulgarian and Slavic Macedonian armed groups. I...
