5Nikola Pašić [1845, Zaječar (Eastern Serbia)–1926, Belgrade]: one of the most important Serbian politicians of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He studied technical sciences in Belgrade and Zurich (1868–1872). While residing in Switzerland, Pašić was greatly influenced by the populist ideologue, Svetozar Marković. It was also there that he met and became close to a group of young Serbian radicals, including Pera Todorović, Pera Velimirović, Lazar Paču, Jovan Žujović.
