« À 67 ans, [l’imam Yaḥyā] apparaissait encore dans la force de l’âge : une grande barbe grise encadrait son visage sillonné de rides, mais majestueux. Sa bouche aux lèvres pleines, assez proéminentes, très mobile et aimable lorsqu’il parlait, avait au repos quelque chose de dur, de presque cruel. Ses yeux noirs très rapprochés dirigeaient sur son interlocuteur un regard perçant. Par moments, s’y allumait une lueur sauvage, seule manifestation de sa contrariété ; au demeurant très maître de soi, il conservait une attitude des plus réservées. »
