8 - Conversion d’Elizabeth, tante du roi; personnage marquant. Mgr écrit au Colonel pour l’avertir de cette conversion et de celle du roi.

La providence permet que le roi Mwanga nous soit toujours sympathique mais le pauvre, il est tellement lié ! Non seulement il ne juge plus aucun procès, mais même pour ses propres affaires de famille, son Katikiro protestant le traîne à Kampala pour le faire condamner: la petite scène des princesses en est la preuve. Mwanga convaincu de la sainteté de notre religion, ou dégoûté au moins de l’hérésie, cherche depuis quelques temps à nous envoyer au catéchisme ses jeunes pages et les bambejja, ses petites nièces.

Providence allows that King Mwanga still likes us, but poor Mwanga he is so tied! Not only does he not judge any cases anymore but in his own family matters, his Protestant Katikiro [prime minister] drags him to Kampala [the British Fort] to get him condemned: the little fuss around the princesses is proof of it [the young princess was attempting to become roman catholic].
