Fields of publication

PUB has a multidisciplinary vocation. While most of our publications are in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences - grouped into collections in arts, law, economics, education, environment, ethnology, geography, history, languages, literature, linguistics, politics, philosophy and wine — it is taking a growing interest in other fields with new collections in architecture, forestry studies and the history of sciences.

Some collections clearly have a professional dimension and are of interest to both researchers and students as well as professionals and an interested general public. Such is the case with collections such as "Esprit des bois" on forests and the wood industry, "Le territoire et ses acteurs" which centres on territorial development or "Labyrinthes" for the world of communication. PUB's current editorial policy offers readers original collections, such as Occitan studies with "Saber", "Grappes et Millésimes" focuses on vines and wine, and the latest collection, "THÉA" - Technical, History, Economics and Archaeology - is the result of collaboration with Ausonius Editions.

Two literature collections have recently been created. "SF Incognita" brings together works on French and global science fiction (research, short articles, long lost papers) " Littérature des Afriques" publishes studies on written and oral African literature.

Presses Universitaires de Bordeaux also publishes textbooks for undergraduates and Masters students and for those preparing for school-teaching qualifications (CAPES, Agrégations) in the "Parcours Universitaires" collection. These contain essays on topics on the recruitment programmes, course handbooks, selections of articles on recruitment programme topics or on the set-books. This collection also includes a programme for learning Korean in the form of manuals and exercise books, for different levels. For several years now "Leçons de sciences en Aquitaine", co-published with Presses Universitaires de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour, has brought together written versions of papers given at conferences inaugurating the academic year at the two universities: Bordeaux Montaigne and Pau et des Pays de l'Adour. These have been given by major figures in contemporary research, such as Patrick Boucheron, Bertrand Braunschweig andMichèle Zancarini-Fournel.

Editorial board and scientific choices

The manuscripts received by Presses Universitaires de Bordeaux are chosen by the editorial board, made up of 17 members (researchers, teacher-researchers and publishing professionals,) after two anonymous reviews submitted by recognised researchers working in higher education or research institution in France or abroad. Choices are settled according to the scientific and writing quality of the manuscript and the possibility of valorising scientific knowledge in the form of a book (paper or digital), as well as whether the manuscript is pertinent to any of PUB's fields of publication. These could be monographs, summaries or reference works as well as structured collective works. The reviews edited by PUB each have their own editorial and drafting committee which each maintain a policy of excellence in the choice of articles and in their editorial work.

Distribution and dissemination

For printed works, Presses Universitaires de Bordeaux are distributed by the Association Française des Presses d'Universités-Diffusion (AFPU-D) and the SODIS (the distributor for Gallimard, éditions Odile Jacob...). The older stock of titles is also available via the Service du Livre Universitaire (SLU).

For a few years now, we have had a policy of publishing and distribution on-line. Digital versions of books and reviews published by PUB are now available on the PUB website as well on specialised portals such as OpenEdition Books, OpenEdition Journals, Cairn.info, or Immateriel.fr.
