Estratto del testo

The kinship terminology used by the Southern Kәl Fәwan is basically “Iroquois “: kin in ego’s own generation are either cross cousins or “siblings”: the terms for “siblings”, differentiated according to sex and seniority, are also those for parallel cousins. But there is a tendency towards “Hawaiian” terminology in the ascending and descending generations: kin in the ascending generations are “mothers” and “fathers” – except for the “mother’s brothers”, who include the following: Ego’s actual mother’s brother and Ego’s matrilateral classificatory mothers’ brothers. Kin in the descending generations are “sons “and “daughters” – except for the “sister’s children”, who are the following: Ego’s actual sister’s children, and his matrilateral classificatory sisters’ children. This terminology is the same as that reported by Bonte (1975b: 11) for the Kәl Gәrәs, and essentially the same as that reported by Nicolaïsen (1963: 451) for the Kәl Fәwan at Aderbissinat.
